Barry Solaiman PhD
Bio
Dr. Barry Solaiman is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assistant Professor of Law at HBKU Law, Qatar, where he is responsible for teaching and supervising law students in the areas of Healthcare Law, Injury Law (Torts) and Constitutional Law. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics in Clinical Medicine Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM-Q), a Fellow of the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics (23/24), and a Governor of the World Association for Medical Law.

On a mission to develop international best practices for regulators, he is focused on creating new legal solutions to the ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence in healthcare and strengthening the laws around corporate lobbying and elections (campaign finance). He is determined to bridge the gap between law, ethics, science and medicine - something he strives to achieve in his research that has been featured in leading books and journals published with Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press, amongst others.
At HBKU, he has been awarded research grant funding of more than 500,000 USD. He was the Lead Principal Investigator for a multidisciplinary grant developing guidelines for the use of AI/Machine Learning in healthcare research. At WCM-Q, he serves as Co-Director of the Intersection of Law & Medicine Series, accredited by both the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, and ACCME in the United States. He has two books forthcoming in 2024.
Before moving to Qatar, he assisted projects at the UK House of Lords, the British Academy and the University of Cambridge while undertaking his PhD. He has also served as Editor-in-Chief of both the Cambridge International Law Journal (CILJ) and the Medicine and Law Journal.
He has been featured in numerous news articles accessible from the home page. His research has been presented globally at conferences in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. This includes papers presented at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and the National University of Singapore at conferences and forums including the Society of Legal Scholars, the Centre for Public Law, the Asian Law Institute and the World Association for Medical Law.
